Did you know that Bill Withers, the writer and singer behind “Lean on Me,” retired from performing and recording many years before he passed?
I’m grateful to have lived in an era with such amazing music. There’s a long list of things I live for, and anyone who knows me also knows that music is high on that list. Yet for all I’ve heard, I can’t think of another song quite like “Lean on Me,” with it’s authentic, simple message:
Lean on me when you’re not strong.
I imagine Withers knew what he had. His business model changed altogether after he ended his performing career.
He adapted. His business focused on licensing his greatest hit. Cover versions, commercials, movies, television shows… they became media for sharing the song. His wife handled the business side primarily.
Please remember that PLACE doesn’t have the answers, the cure, the miracle we so desperately seek sometimes.
Also remember that we can get together and lean on each other. Lean on me, I’ll lean on you, and we all lean on each other.
And don’t forget to adapt.
